CRICKHOWELL 25  GWERNYFED 20

On a glorious day at Parc Broyd, Crickhowell entertained local rivals Gwernyfed in the return derby match. A large crowd of supporters were entertained with the result closely contested right up until the final whistle.

The home side were seeking to turn around an earlier season defeat at the hands of Gwernyfed and with twenty minutes gone were trailing 12-0 as a driving lineout try by James Brute and another score by centre Will Powell after an awkward bounce of the ball fell Gwernyfed's way.

Galvanised into action and supported by a large home support, it was the home side who took the game to Gwernyfed and dominated the next quarter - pressing the corners with centre Tom Holly and prop James Yemm both touching down to take the half time score to 15 -12 to the visitors.

The second half saw Crickhowell with most of the territory as a penalty was converted to tie the scores. With Gwernyfed hampered by a yellow card and giving away a lot of penalties, they struggled to get a foot hold in the Crickhowell half. A couple of good runs by the home backs saw stand-out skipper Lewis Logan at number eight, break the Gwernyfed defence to plunge over under the posts. Another penalty for the home side saw them build a ten point lead at 25-15.

Gwernyfed however, finished much the stronger, and after several drives substitute Pete Eckley powered over with two minutes to go and from the kick off Gwernyfed pressed again and only solid defence kept the Talgarth men out. Gwerrnyfed conceded yet another penalty agonisingly when only inches from the Crickhowell line which turned out to be the final play as outside half Werrett cleared much to the delight of the home supporters.

A fantastic day of community rugby at its best, with both sides making it an entertaining afternoon and an enjoyable evening was had by all as both bands of supporters retired to enjoy Crickhowell's new clubhouse bar and facilities.
